Compared to the past, in 2018, the organizing committee of BMMF under CCOM will host the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) World New Music Days in Beijing, China. Founded in 1922 at Salzburg, Austria, ISCM is an organization aimed to promote contemporary music. A large number of master composers have earned their fame through ISCM in its 95-year history. This will be the first time for China to host this festival. It’s an honor for the host city Beijing and a great recognition of Chinese contemporary music by the international music society. It shows that Chinese music has truly moved toward the center of the world stage.
According to reports, during the eight-day music festival, many global music experts, scholars and composers will gather in Beijing. At the same time, more than 20 well-known orchestras from China, the United States, Germany, Russia, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and other countries will perform as well.
The 2018 Beijing Modern Music Festival will be co-hosted by China National Symphony Orchestra. It will present three splendid concerts to the audience. China National Symphony Orchestra always has an excellent ability to interpret contemporary music works. It is not only the highlight but also a powerful artistic support of this festival.
After more than 15 years of development, BMMF has matured over the years and has become a modern music gala with great influences both at home and abroad. The BMMF, which focuses on popularizing modern music, promoting cultural and artistic exchanges at home and abroad, and providing quality development platforms for young musicians, has accumulated a large number of music achievements. To date, more than 400 concerts for selected music works have been held, more than 100 lectures and master classes have been given, and a large number of academic monographs, music scores and audio-visual products have been published.
Apart from the mission of promoting the adventurous spirit of modern music and maintaining a high academic standard, this festival also seeks to encourage more audiences to enter the concert hall. By encouraging experts and scholars to visit the community, musicians and composers from all over the world will have the chance to know more about Beijing and help to integrate art with society, ensuring that new music can have a widespread impact.
