The Imagination of “Image Noise”

Remembrance of A Concert in 2014 Beijing Modern Music Festival

In the multimedia concert “Image Noise” presented in May 17, 2015 by NZTrio from New Zealand, the composers David Downes and Michael Norris combined both of imaginal thinking (multimedia) and sound thinking in the music conception of their works. For instance, the Inner Phases took advantage of multimedia video as its background image: a pinhead was coming out of it, and slowly walking to the middle. Larger and larger, it was going on and finally slowly disappeared--- The music elements changed along with the changes of the images on video by using the composing technologies of repetition, overlap, canon etc. to vividly describe the musical languages of images such as enlarging and expanding, approaching and disappearing.
